Maruti Suzuki discontinues sale of S-Cross crossover lower variants in India

Based on the report from Economic Times, the Indian carmaker has discontinued the sale of Maruti S-Cross crossover lower variants, which feature 1.6-litre diesel engines in India, due to lowest demand. Maruti Suzuki is now selling the S-Cross Alpha variant (top-end version) available with the 1.6-litre diesel engine and it is priced Rs. 12.03lakh in ex-showroom of New Delhi.

Besides, Maruti Suzuki continues the sales of three variants (Sigma, Delta and Alpha) powered by the 1.3-litre diesel engine and which are available in the ex-showroom price range of Rs 8.78 lakh to Rs 10.63 lakh.
The existed variants of the S-Cross continuously sold by the premium Nexa outlets. In the S-Cross 1.6-litre segment, most of the customers only opt for the highest Alpha trim as it contains all features. So that the company has planned to discontinue the lower variants.
According to company’s spokesperson, the company has started the new segment of premium crossover with the S-Cross and the model gets average sales of 2,000 to 2,100 units monthly. Moreover, the company has reduced the price of the crossover by more than Rs.2 lakh in India. The 1.3-litre variants had a reduction of Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 66,000, whereas the 1.6-litre variants have a reduction of Rs. 2,05,000 for three trims.
Based on the existing model, the company is making the advanced 2017 Maruti S-Cross, which has been previewed at the Surat Auto Expo, for the next generation customers. The facelifted crossover has launched in the European market and it is expected to be introduced in the second half of this year in the country.
