Top 10 best-selling passenger cars in October 2016: Maruti Baleno reports 153% growth


In the Indian market, the passenger car segment reported the marginal growth of 0.45 percent in the month of October 2016 with the sales of 1,95,036 units. The report of cars sales structure is prepared according to the data released by the SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers). Like the previous months, the list of best-selling passenger cars is highlighted by the Maruti Alto in October 2016.
Moreover, six positions of the list are occupied by the Maruti Suzuki models. The Alto sales decreased to 18% in the last month compared to the year-ago period. In fact, the Alto car has reported negative sales growth in the period of January to August 2016. Ahead of festival season, the Alto surprisingly reported positive sales in the month of September 2016.
The Swift Dzire is the second best-selling car in the last month, but it reported the sales drop of 28% to 15,201units compared to the sales of 21,084 units in October 2015. The hatchbacks of Maruti Suzuki, Wagon R and Swift accounted for 2% positive and 17% negative sales growth in the previous month against the year-ago month.
Hyundai sold 14,530 units of Grand i10 and 11,532 units of Elite i20 in the last month and accomplished for 3% and 5% sales growth. The seventh position occupied by the Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno, which highly reports 153% sales growth to 10,718 units due to the premium appearance and performance. Still, the Baleno models receive the waiting period in the country so that the company plans to manufacture the additional units at the Suzuki’s new Gujarat plant.
Being a new small car, the Renault Kwid gets the 89% sales growth with the sales of 9,801 units in October 2016. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio hatchback and Honda City occupied ninth and tenth positions with 44% positive and 9% negative sales growth respectively.
