The performance based version of the regular Volkswagen Polo hatchback, named as the Volkswagen Polo GTI is available in the Indian market at Rs. 25.99 Lakhs in Delhi ex-showrooms. The Polo GTI has launched in the first week of November 2016 with 99 limited units and offered in three-door variant only. The performance based hatchback slots between the entry-level 5-door hatchbacks like the VW Polo GT TSI and Fiat Punto Abarth and the premium hot hatches like Abarth 595 Competizione and Mini Cooper S.
The Polo GTI is powered by the four-cylinder, 1.8L TSI turbo petrol engine that is rated at the maximum output of 189hp power and 250Nm torque. Using the 7-speed DSG gearbox and steering-mounted paddle shifters, the power is distributed to the front wheels. The premium hatchback has the capability to sprint from 0 to 100kmph in 7.2 seconds so that it hits the top speed of 233 kph. In the Indian market, the Polo GTI car is available with the changes of better dust-proofing and suspension tuning.
The look of the GTI is identical to the model showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo (Delhi Motor Show). The VW Polo GTI offers with the 5-spoke alloy wheels, 215/40 tyres, LED headlamps along with the Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), chrome exhausts, three-spoke steering wheel, Jacara upholstery, aluminium pedals, cruise control, large and advanced touchscreen infotainment system, ABS, front armrest, Hill-hold control and ESP.
Coming to the price structure, the Polo GTI is around Rs.17lakhs higher than the Polo GT TSI rated at 105hp. Besides, it is 16lakhs higher than the closest rival of 147hp Punto Abarth. The cost of the Polo GTI is higher than its nearest competitors due to the three-door body style and specific changes.
