All new Mahindra SUV receives SsangYong X100 platform

Mahindra has confirmed that the upcoming all-new sport utility vehicle is developed based on the South Korean manufacturer’s SsangYong X100 platform. This report directly announced by Dr Pawan Goenka, ED of Mahindra (Automotive) in front of the reporters. The same X100 platform underpins in the upcoming SsangYong Tivoli, which is expected to be launched in the Indian market soon. With the Korean based engineering and design language, the SsangYong Tivoli will strengthen the compact SUV segment in India.

At the moment, there is no total information regarding the upcoming Mahindra SUV, but it will cost less than the existing Mahindra range. Some of the reports indicated that the new Mahindra SUV will come with the all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine. As the industry aware of that the company is working on the new petrol engines with the investment of Rs. 1000 crores.

Further, the same 1.5-litre petrol engine will be offered in the existing compact SUVs, Mahindra TUV 300 and NuvoSport. In addition, the 1.6-litre diesel engine will power the new compact SUV diesel variant with the standard transmission.

With the X100 platform, the upcoming SUV will be positioned between the XUV 500 and TUV 300 and strengthen the concept. Apart from this, Mahindra is working on the new electric car with the association of the famous design firm, Pininfarina.

Though no confirmation from Mahindra, the next-gen SsangYong Tivoli will be introduced in the Indian market or not. If launched, it will cost around Rs. 15 to 18lakhs in ex-showrooms while the all-new SUV will carry the price tag of Rs. 9-12lakhs. Just announced the concept, the new Tivoli based SUV will take the time to launch as Mahindra has not yet disclosed any other information.
We hope that both companies will work together by sharing the technology and introduced world-class products in the coming years.
