Economic Times reported that the largest utility vehicle manufacturer, Mahindra will introduce the mild hybrid system in its best-selling SUV of Mahindra XUV 500. The mild hybrid version of the XUV 500 will reach the Indian showrooms in coming 6 to 12 months. The popular SUV will feature the “Intelli-Hybrid” system that was introduced for the first time in the Scorpio model in July 2016.
As per the news, the basic auto start and stop (Mahindra micro hybrid system) is to be replaced by the Intelli-Hybrid system, which features the large capacity battery, auto start & stop, brake energy recuperation and the starter motor.
The starter motor works as a standard motor and alternator to offer the mild electrical boost in the certain driving situations. Using the Intelli-Hybrid, the Scorpio’s fuel consumption reduced by up to 7 percent. Besides, the 2.2-litre mHawk engine powered XUV 500 will also return the same reduced fuel-consumption.
Not only Mahindra, the other manufacturers are seeking to introduce the hybrid cars, mild-hybrid systems and electric vehicles in the Indian market. One of the biggest manufacturers, Maruti Suzuki has already introduced the mild hybrid vehicles and which have more demand in the market than the regular ones.
Mahindra had made its entry in the electric vehicle segment with the Mahindra e2o and later e-Verito. Now, the company is planning to launch the all-new electric SUV, which might be KUV 100 electric, in the market to increase the segment range as well as raise the company brand.
