Mahindra – Ssangyong works on new petrol engine and two new models



Economic Times reported that Mahindra & Mahindra and its owned company Ssangyong are working on the new models for the Indian market. There was a critical gap in Mahindra’s petrol portfolio after developing the new engines, including the petrol engines so that both companies are working on the two new models, which will introduce in the two different segments. As per the report, one is to be developed based on the Ssangyong Tivoli’s platform and another one is the new bigger (7-seater) SUV.
Mahindra has associated with the South Korean SUV specialist, Ssangyong to introduce the new range of models, including SUVs in the Indian market. Several models like Korando, Tivoli, Rodius, Chairman, Actyon Sports, as well Ssangyong models introduced by Mahindra in the country.
The new Mahindra compact model is an urban SUV, which is developed based on the X100 or Ssangyong Tivoli platform. With an upcoming compact car, Mahindra will expand its presence in the sub-4metre space in the country. The global 7-seater SUV will be developed to take on the existing Toyota Fortuner and introduced as the flagship version of Mahindra. The Ssangyong version of the SUV will make its entry into the North American market by 2020 to acquaint with the Korean brand’s ambitious.
On the occasion of Paris Motor Show, Johng-Sik Choi, Chief Executive of Ssangyong said the company has seen the fall in costs to develop the new range of petrol engine. So that the Indian parent company (Mahindra) and Ssangyong are now discussing with the development of new joint platforms.
The South Koran company is trying to share the new Tivoli platform in India and discussing on another monocoque platform for the bigger SUV and van, according to Choi. Besides, we will use D segment SUV and van for the North American market. With the association of Mahindra, the company to invest around $250 million on a project, otherwise Ssangyong to invest $300 to $400 million.
Additionally, the Korean company will replace the Korando, Rexton, and Korando pickup truck with the future generation versions. Mahindra, one of the Indian auto manufacturers, is continuously increasing its portfolio in the highly demanding segments of utility vehicles and electric vehicles. Just one day back, Mahindra has launched the Supro electric van in the EV segment, of which Mahindra Reva e2o and Verito electric (e-Verito) are other two models. The Mahindra 4-door e2o will most probably launch with the efficient Drivetrain and battery pack in India soon.
