Maruti to launch Vitara Brezza petrol by May 2017

The latest report from the automotive sources is the Indian biggest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki to launch the petrol variants of the currently available Vitara Brezza by May 2017 in the country. Nearly over a year after the introduction of diesel variants, the Vitara Brezza petrol variants will hit the showrooms. Maruti Suzuki has already confirmed that the petrol variants are under development stage, but the introduction will take time as the demand for the Brezza diesel is high on some variants in some cities.
The first engine option of the Brezza petrol is the Maruti Suzuki’s new 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine, which will also be introduced in the upgraded models of S-Cross and Ciaz by the next year. The new 1.5-litre engine will replace the currently available 1.2-litre engine on the Maruti cars and place the Brezza petrol in the higher tax slab.
Some of the reports indicate that the engine powering the new compact SUV will be the locally manufactured 1.0-litre three-cylinder BoosterJet engine, which will make its introduction in the country in the Maruti Baleno RS in the coming months. The 5-speed manual gearbox is offered as the standard transmission and mated to whatever the engine offered in the Vitara Brezza. Besides, the automatic variants of Brezza confirmed by Suzuki at the Indonesian auto show in August. There is no news the Vitara Brezza will introduce with the automatic gearbox or not in the Indian market.
Being an entry level Maruti car in the highly demanding compact SUV segment, the Vitara Brezza has already crossed the sales mark of 50,000 units. The company expects that the introduction of petrol variants to increase the demand of the sub-4metre SUV among the existing best-selling compact SUVs like Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra TUV300.
