Maruti Suzuki named as the
biggest car market leader in India with its best product portfolio and the
highest sales. The carmaker has sold a total 1,13,162 cars in the Indian market
as against the year-ago period sales of 1,02,359units, a growth of 10.6%. In
the last month, the exports decreased to 9,872 units and represented -20.8%
decline compared to the sales (12,466 units) in May 2015. The total sales of
Maruti Suzuki in the global market 1,23,034units compared to 1,14,825 units in
May 2016 and accounted for 7.1% growth.
The segment of mini cars, compromising
Alto and Wagon R, encountered for 5.6 percent decline with 33,105 units sales in
the last month. With the Swift, Celerio, Baleno, Ritz and Swift Dzire popular
cars, Maruti Suzuki posted 11 percent growth in the compact category. Similarly,
the mid-size segment with the Ciaz sedan has posted 3.5 percent growth with the
sales of 5,188 units whereas the super compact segment has a decline of 19.9%.
The sales of the Maruti Suzuki utility
vehicles witnessed for the emerging demand of UV segment in the Indian auto market.
With the newly launched Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, S-Cross and Gypsy (13,596 units),
the car maker reported 144.2% growth compared to the sales in May 2015 were
5,567 units. The category of vans has increased
to 12,164 units from 11,602 units in year-ago May and represented the growth of
4.8 percent.
The new launches from the Indian
company in the last fiscal are the S-Cross crossover (August 2015), Baleno
premium hatchback in October 2015 and Vitara Brezza in March. The compact SUV variants
received 6 to 9 month waiting period from the company owing to the low
production. In fact, the auto company has increased production capacity, but
the demand for the product is so high in some locations. Moreover, Maruti Suzuki
highlighted in the list of best-selling passenger cars in May 2016 with seven
products.
In the last fiscal, Maruti Suzuki
sold a total of 14,29,248 units in the international market, in which 13,05,351
units sold in domestic market. The upcoming car like Suzuki Ignis showcased at
Auto Expo 2016, is expected to increase the demand in the utility vehicle
segment. The car is expected to release in the next-coming festival period and
to be sold via the premium outlets under the NEXA network.
