Top 10 best-selling cars in India in May 2016


The list of top ten best-selling cars is again highlighted by Maruti Suzuki in the last month with seven products. Toyota Innova Crysta has made its entry in the list of highest selling cars with the sales of 7259 units. The recent products, Vitara Brezza and Baleno have occupied positions in the list with its eye-catching look and performance. Continuously, the first four models from the car market leader, Maruti Suzuki but, the positions varied from one month to another month. The Wagon R has encountered the 6% YoY growth while the Swift, Swift Dzire and Alto models dropped by 28%, 14% and 12% respectively in total sales.

In May 2016, the Renault Kwid missed from the list and dropped to 13th position with the low sales of 5,600 units. The main reason to drop the sales in India is the Kwid scores zero star rating in the Global NCAP crash test. Being a small car, the Alto car positioned first place with the sales of 19,874 units, Alto 800 and Alto K10 are the existing models. Just a few days back, the passenger carmaker (Maruti Suzuki) has been introduced the Alto 800 facelift to strengthen the brand name.

The Swift Dzire is the fuel-efficient sedan, which holds 16,968 units of sales in the domestic car market and occupied the second position. In the list, it is only the sedan and offered in automatic versions for clutch-free driving on the busy roads. The Wagon R and Swift models declined in YoY sales growth, even though the two hatchbacks has been received the better sales in the last month compared to other models.

Hyundai’s two products existed in the highest-selling car, Grand i10 holds the fifth place with 12,055 units whereas the Elite i20 premium hatchback has 8,649 deliveries. The Grand i10 has 19 percent increment in the same month of the previous year. The iconic model in the premium hatchback segment is Baleno, which is offered in both fuel-type versions and placed in the list of the best cars. The first model of the domestic unit exports to the biggest 100 car markets, compromising Suzuki’s home market.

The Celerio hatchback with 7,379 units and Vitara Brezza, enter-level compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki, with 7,193 units recognised as best-selling cars. The Brezza is under the waiting period of 6 to 9 months based upon the variants and locations. There are 100 units of difference between the Hyundai Creta and Vitara Brezza that has emerged as the SUV segment leader in the last month.
