Volkswagen India to recall 1.9 lakh diesel cars in India


The German carmaker, Volkswagen will recall 1.90lakh diesel cars in the Indian market due to fix the new emission software and the process will be started from the next month. The buyers, who purchased Volkswagen cars, will not receive any service charges from the company in the Indian market. But, the customers faced charges in the US market as regards violating emission norms.

The recall process was completed in the US market and Volkswagen updated the software with the new one. Kamal Basu, marketing head of Volkswagen India, confirmed that whatever the changes made in the US- specific Vehicles will be applied in the Indian-specific cars. The total recalling process starts from July, will be continued for around 10 months, according to him.

A total of 11 million diesel vehicles sold in the European, the US and other international markets recalled by the German carmaker for fitting the new emission software. The Volkswagen Group brands, including VW Passenger Cars, Audi, Porsche, Seat and Skoda sales went down due to the emission scandal. As for this reason, the company launched its new car, Ameo in petrol versions and the diesel versions expected to be introduced later in the Indian market.


Currently, the models like Polo hatchback, Vento, Jetta and Ameo available in the domestic passenger car market and the company has introduced the special editions of Polo and Vento models with extra features. Besides, the company plans to launch the Polo GTI, Volkswagen Beetle and Tiguan models in the next one to two years. The Ameo is the entry level sedan from the German company and offered with the high range of features and good looking exterior design. The new car is affordable at Rs. 5.14lakhs on the base variant in Mumbai ex-showroom.
