Volkswagen Polo GTI to get 220bhp with new 1.8-litre petrol engine


The German carmaker has decided to launch the new Volkswagen Polo GTI version in the Indian car market and the hatchback is expected to get the powerful engine. The earlier reports recommended that the upcoming car will get 197bhp power but, the latest sources indicated the Polo GTI will be featured the 220bhp power engine. The company is working on the new generation 1.8-litre engine to generate the maximum outputs and the same engine will be included in the upcoming Volkswagen cars.

The Polo GTI is the performance-based hatchback, which will be increased the Polo range in the domestic passenger car market after its launch. As per the information from the automotive sources, the Polo GTI will be introduced in the country by this year end. If the Polo GTI hatchback is to be launched in the h2 of 2016 then it will be the second car launch from Volkswagen for this year.

Volkswagen Ameo is the first car launch in this year and designed based on the existing Polo hatchback platform. Being a first compact sedan from Volkswagen, its look is almost similar to the current Vento sedan that has more demand in the Mexican market.

The same engine (upgraded 1.8-litre petrol) is likely to be offered in the next-generation Polo hatchback and Vento sedan models. As of now, the limited editions of Polo and Vento offered with the extra exterior features and special equipment.  

The Volkswagen Polo GTI will be imported via the CBU route and the upcoming hatchback is expected to be priced around Rs. 18 to 20 lakhs.
