Maruti Suzuki’s MD and CEO, Kenichi Ayukawa confirmed that the Indian largest carmaker will increase its portfolio of SUVs and bigger cars along with small cars. Maruti Suzuki is the leader in the small car range, but the success of the Renault Kwid will cause for concern of the carmaker. So that, the company has started the work of new generation Alto, which is the best-selling small car in India.
The Indo-Japanese carmaker has been receiving the healthy response from the customers with its best models, Maruti Ciazsedan and the new Vitara Brezza SUV. The new generation customers are expecting more premium cars, as a result, the company is concentrating on the introduction of premium cars according to the customer’s expectations, according to CEO of Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki expects its overall sales to increase by 10 percent in this fiscal with the existing and new models. Now, the company has a market share of around 47 percent with the good monsoon and other positives. In the last fiscal, the largest car maker has sold a total of 13 lakhs cars in India and exported 1.2 lakh cars.
With the Gujarat production plant, the company to target the total sales of 20lakh cars by the end of this decade (2020). The production at the Gujarat plant to begin from the next year, while the company’s Manesar and Gurgaon plants have the capacity to produce 15 lakh cars in a year. By adding the third shift, the two plant’s production capacity will increase by 10 percent. Initially, the Gujarat plant will be started with the production capacity of 2.5lakh cars in the first phase, while the second phase will address the same number of volumes.
The entry level segment of Maruti has been challenged by Renault Kwid with the average monthly sales of 10,000 cars, compared to 18,000 to 19,000 units of Alto. As for that reason and continue the trust on the Alto as well as the small car segment, we are planning to introduce the new generation Alto soon in India.
