Maruti Suzuki market share increased in NCR due to diesel ban

The largest carmaker’s market share has been increased in the NCR region due to the Supreme Court’s verdict of heavy diesel vehicle ban. From the last five months, the buyers have opted for the petrol versions as of this ban in Delhi NCR. Consequently, the sales of company’s petrol version increased and Maruti Suzuki accounts for more than 5 percent share in the last one and half year in NCR.
Due to the sentiment of the diesel vehicle ban, the company’s sales increased in the major cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Pune and Mumbai. All these major cities accounted for over 40 percent of the total company sales, especially the sales of petrol versions raised in the country.


The diesel ban is the beneficial for Maruti Suzuki, but the other companies like Mahindra, Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Audi companies effected in the country. Audi has estimated that it may loss of Rs. 760crore worth of sales in just last 8 to 9 months of period. Additionally, the car manufacturers are working on the petrol versions of existing models to overcome the disaster.
Along with the diesel ban, the company’s new launches Ciaz hybrid (Ciaz SHVS), Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza influenced the company to have the maximum sales in all regions. The NCR+ region contributed 13 percent of national sales with 51 percent of market share in the first quarter of this fiscal year ended in June 2016.

RS Kalsi, Executive Director of Maruti Suzuki, said that the increment of sales in the major cities is one of the company’s major achievements. We have a strong network across the country and offered best-in-class products with the AMT and mild hybrid technologies in the last one year period. As a result, the company has gained the best market share in India, according to him.
Being an entry level sub-4metre SUV, Vitara Brezza is becoming as the sixth best passenger vehicle with sales of 10,232 units in the last month. Similarly, Maruti Suzuki sold 9,120 units of Baleno in the earlier month and the premium hatchback was the 9thbest-selling vehicle in India.
