According to the report of Financial Express, Maruti Suzuki is to launch its upcoming crossover
Maruti Ignis in this Diwali season. Initially, the company has committed to
introduce the Ignis in the country during the festival season. But, some of the
reports stated that the company is planning to postpone its new crossover
launch to the next year due to the high demand of the existing products, Vitara Brezza and Baleno.
The Maruti Ignis has been unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo
for the first time in India and the model measures the compact body dimensions
of 3,700mm length, 1660mm width, 1595mm height and comes with the wheelbase of
2435mm and 180mm ground clearance.
The India-specific model will be featured the chrome
finished grille and roof rails, dual tone dashboard with the SmartPlay display,
the latest steering wheel design and the unique HVAC controls. The higher
variants may offer with the LED DRLs, wider C-pillar and flared wheel arches.
The compact crossover is expected to be available with the
two types of petrol engines and one diesel engine. The petrol engines will be
the 1.2-litre K12B with VVT sourced from its existed models and the
global-specific Baleno’s 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine. The 1.3-litre DDiS diesel
engine, available in the existing crossover Maruti S-Cross, will be used
in the Ignis, entry level small crossover of Maruti Suzuki.
The rumours around the Ignis are the new model to get the
mild hybrid system of SHVS and the AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) option
on the diesel variant. The company is designing this model to target the
Mahindra KUV 100 small crossover in India. The estimated cost of the upcoming Maruti car will around the Mahindra’s car price.
Suzuki
has launched the Ignis in its home market (Japan), so that India will be the
second market to get this crossover.
